The Story Behind the Success of Hydro Dynamics and Nitrox Injection Systems
It all began in the early 1980s. Two recreational and fishing lakes in Chuck Goodman's hometown of Benton, Louisiana were completed. It did not take long for Chuck to realize his small aluminum fishing boat (which he still owns) was literally getting washed ashore by the hi-performance fishing rigs and pleasure boats of the 1980s. He convinced his wife that he needed a go-fast pleasure boat for pulling skiers and to participate in a few friendly lake races.
A serious obstacle occurred. In order for Chuck to go fast, the prop had to be higher in the water and serious complaints were lodged by his family that there was just too much turbulence behind the boat for skiing. According to Chuck, "It was a pain in the neck to raise and lower the engine with the jack plate that came with this rig... there had to be something that worked better." Scratching his head, he soon realized that there was nothing in the manual jack plate market that offered the convenience he needed.
At that time, Chuck was working for a local plant in the Industrial Engineering Department. Together with his engineering background, Chuck is also a first class welder, tool & die maker, and machinist. From his kitchen table to his small 12' x 14' shop in his backyard what is now known as the Rapid Jack was born in 1983. No more hassles raising and lowering his engine!
At the urging of several Boat Manufacturers, Chuck quit his job and began manufacturing the Rapid Jack out of his small shop. He would load up his station wagon and travel from boat dealer to boat dealer in the South. The technology was so different... a ratchet mechanism together with a bar and cable assembly which would raise and lower the engine in 1/4" increments with just one wrench and in less than two minutes. Unbelievable! At first, some boat dealers were skeptical until they saw how the Rapid Jack worked.
Hydro Dynamics continued to evolve introducing a Hi-Performance Division, Nitrox Injection Systems. Hi-Performance is contagious. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, going 70-80 MPH with an outboard engine hung on the back of your boat was phenomenal. However, Chuck got tired of the Jet Boat guys beating him half track. He needed an edge. As an outboard racer for several years, a nitrous system seemed to be the perfect solution. There were numerous nitrous systems available on the market and he tried them all. The results were catastrophic engine failures related to the nitrous. He and his research team realized that all of the systems used were built by guys building kits for cars and inboard boats. After several months of trial and error, Chuck and his team built a nitrous system that was not only fast but reliable. The news spread fast of Chuck's successes on the lake. Shortly thereafter, some of the fastest outboards were running Nitrox Systems.
From the humble beginnings of a kitchen table and a small tin shop, Hydro Dynamics' modern facility is located near the small town of Benton in Northwest Louisiana on 2-1/2 acres overlooking one of Louisiana's many bayous. The 10,000 sq. ft. plant houses state-of-the-art CNC machines, milling machines, lathes, saws, flow benches, etc.
Hydro Dynamics and Nitrox has a continuing commitment to the outboard industry. Research and Development never stops. Nitrox has expanded to include engine modification, electronic modules and piston work. Hydro Dynamics offers a jack plate for 25 HP engines up to and including V-8 engines, hardware and accessories. Each product is tested rigorously and evaluated for possible application in the boating industry.
We at Hydro Dynamics and Nitrox want to extend our sincere appreciation for your interest in our products. We realize the success of our company is dependant on loyal customers.
